What DELIGHTS women?

Time for the results from the second December '08 women's survey. The question was:

"Women again! What DELIGHTS you when you're dancing tango? What makes a tanguero wonderful to dance with?"

This time there were 69 survey page views and 9 women responded. The women who responded came from various levels of experience, and so expressed similar qualities from different perspectives. For example, a less experienced tanguera may look for a sense of security while dancing and wants a clear lead she can follow, while a more advanced woman wants clarity of communication so she can dialogue musically with her partner.

Women at every level look for "connection"!

I've organized their comments a bit in categories, even if it meant breaking up one person's comments to list in several areas. Here's a list of what delights women!:

In a future post, I'll give you MY own list! But now I think it's time to move on.

"The Tangueros' 14 Deadly Errors": Women's Survey Results

In the first half of December, I ran two surveys for women on Chuck Hand's Treasure Coast Tango website for Argentine Tango in Florida. The first asked women to tell me what they considered to be the most common errors of tangueros when they dance - men's habits that makes it less enjoyable for women to dance with them. The survey coincided with the presentation of my Free Seminar for Men before Liber and Rosa Solsona's milonga in Lake Worth on Dec. 6, 2008: "The Tangueros' 14 Deadly Errors: How to identify yours and correct them in just 4-6 months . . . and have women "lining up" to dance with you at every milonga!"

I promised you I'd publish the women's responses together with my own outline. Here are the two combined lists below, with the women's comments in blue.

* * MEN - You can already start using this list to do a self-evaluation and choose a few habits to change yourself! However, through my e-zines and future clinics and workshops, I will address HOW TO CORRECT THE 14 DEADLY ERRORS.

Just 5 women responded to this first survey. The curious thing about this first survey on Chuck's site, is that it got 344 page views! (I suspect some were from curious men.) . . . and only 5 responses. But the feedback in those 5 responses is nontheless important to us.
The second survey had more participants. We'll look at that one tomorrow.

Tomorrow we'll go on to Part 2 of the woman's survey:
"Women again! What DELIGHTS you when you're dancing tango? What makes a tanguero wonderful to dance with?"

Feel free to post your comments! Just click on the word "comments" below.

Double Survey for Men - Part 2

Feliz Navidad!

This post and the one below form the double survey for men. I call it the "love-hate survey" because it asks men what they love and what they hate about dancing with a tanguera. Many of you were asking for this when we did the men's workshop to identify your errors: you also wanted to give your input to a list of women's errors. So here's your chance. In the post below I ask what you love about dancing with them. Both sides of the coin.

Double Survey for Men - Part 1

I'm almost ready to publish the women's comments from the last two surveys: "What do you think are The Tangueros' 14 Deadly Errors?" and "What delights women?"

Meanwhile, Men, it's finally your turn. You may answer anonymously, or leave your name and email address for a free subscription to my new e-zine for men, "The Guapo Tanguero". You'll receive your first edition before the New Year.

Here's part 1 of your two question survey. Then next post will be part 2.

This Monday do something different

Monday evening will you rush home after work to wrap presents?

Consider another option: I'm inviting you, and anyone you'd like to bring, to have a glass of wine with me and perhaps your first taste of Argentine Tango. This could mean participating in the free demo lesson, or just watching the video, listening to the music, asking me some questions, and observing the lesson. It's not necessary to come with a partner, even if you do want to take the lesson.

Whether you've always wanted to dance Argentine Tango because of its elegant sensuality and restrained passionality, or because you love the music - or you have no intension of ever setting foot on a dance floor, the exercises we'll do in the intro lesson are sure to be fun, and you might gain some insights about improving your stability and balance when you move.

How to know if Argentine Tango is for you

  • Do you wish you had a way to live out your expressive potential?
  • Would you like to achieve a fuller expression of your sensual side?
  • Could your social life use a jump start?
  • Would you like to bring new excitement to your relationship with your life partner?
  • Are you looking for a new challenge?
  • Do you love music and sometimes wish you could be doing something expressive with it?
  • Do you feel a need for something new and different to nourish your spirit?
  • Do you wish that when you travelled for business or pleasure, you had greater access to the rich local life that tourists rarely see?

You too can acquire an artistic means to express your deepest self, in an intense, but non-binding, communication with the opposite sex. You too can develop greater self confidence in your masculinity or femininity, which can otherwise so easily be stifled in today's politically-correct society. You too can gain a "passport" to join circles of friends who share your passion, here in SW Florida, and in almost every major city of the world.

Please call me 239-776-6535 or email me at htreitman@gmail.com so that I may answer your questions about what tango can to for you, and how you can get started. Or go to these pages for detailed information on group and private lessons and on Tango Boot Camp.

Helaine's bio

Recently arrived in Naples, FL after 20 years in Italy, Helaine has danced Argentine Tango since 1994, researching its evolution from its historic roots through contemporary innovation. She has studied tango in the US, Europe and Buenos Aires, with legendary as well as younger world-class Argentine masters. But the most important aspect of her trips to Buenos Aires was dancing day and night in the milongas (tango dance halls) with the “milongueros” - dancers with 40-50 years of experience - who conveyed to her their authentic and deeply-felt interpretation of the music.
Known in Italy as “the woman who brought tango to Umbria”, Helaine founded her school UmbriaTango in 2000, with headquarters in Perugia, and has since taught 600-700 people to dance tango and appreciate its culture, giving life to a thriving new tango community. She trained over a dozen professional assistants who now have their own schools, and taught special workshops around Umbria, Florida, and Chania, Crete (Greece), where she trained the local teachers, Frini and Dimitris. Helaine has performed tango in theaters and museums, at cultural events and milongas, and on Italian television. She organized Umbria’s earliest tango events, with support from the local government, including Italy’s first New Year’s Tango Festival in 2002; the festival lasted 8 days and brought 250 tango dancers from all over Europe to Todi’s historic center. In 2001 she started “Milonga Trasnochando”, Umbria’s first weekly tango dance, and continued expanding the milonga culture there; today with hundreds of skilled tango dancers trained by Helaine, you can find a nice place to dance in Umbria every night of the week.
Naples, get ready to tango!

What delights women?

I want to thank the 30-or-so people who came to my Seminar for Men, "The Tangueros' 14 Deadly Errors" last Saturday before Liber and Rosa's milonga in Lake Worth. I was very happy to meet you and to share this information, and I hope to see you all again soon. I told you about the Errors, and we have yet to deal with how to correct most of them: it's a big job. ;) (But don't worry. We'll soon deal with the Tangueras' Deadly Errors!)

For all the people who registered and attended, I will be sending you the video summary of the seminar as my thank-you. More on that soon.

I've posted a new question to my survey page on the Treasure Coast Tango website. This one's for women again. It's the other side of the coin to last week's question "What do YOU think are the tangueros' most common errors?"

The new question for women is: "What DELIGHTS you when you're dancing tango? What makes a tanguero wonderful to dance with?"

To answer, please click here:
http://www.treasurecoasttango.com/id184.html (Dec. 26, '08 - we've moved on to a new survey)

You may answer anonymously, or leave your name and email address to receive the HAPPY TANGUERA e-zine later this month, which will be full of advice and suggestions to help you more thoroughly enjoy your life as a tanguera.

Everyone's welcome to forward this link to any tanguera you think would enjoy giving us her opinion, and she can get a free subscription to the Happy Tanguera e-zine, too.

I will reveal the results from the double-survey in about a week!

I hope to see some of you in Sarasota Sunday at the Twighlight Tango milonga, with Marsha Kramer and Pablo and Alicia Repun!

Abrazos,
Helaine
